the perfect wedding gift
wedding gifts.
some people go overboard, some shop at the dollar store for cheap leather clocks.
but some get it exactly right.
and by exactly right, i mean the gift eric bought me for our wedding.
we’d heard about the tradition of couples giving each other a wedding gift in honor of their special day. of course i wanted to write each other a 10 page love letter listing all the reasons why we were in love and marrying each other.
eric was like… “ummmmmmmmmm….can we do something different?”
i’m so glad he asked.
we decided to surprise each other with our wedding gifts, and eric’s was simply amazing:
he bought me a copper fire pit bowl, in which he filled with water
and washed my feet on our wedding night.
(*sidenote: i had really wanted to wash each other’s feet in our wedding ceremony as a symbol of how we would serve each other in marriage. but, we decided against it cause it might be embarrassing and people would think we’re weird. plus, no on wants to see webbed toes in church).
(*second sidenote: just kidding! neither eric or i have webbed toes.)
the copper fire pit bowl wasn’t a flashy, expensive, or over-done gift. it was simply something that eric put a lot of thought into, remembered what i wanted, and knew it would make me feel loved. he is amazing.
so the lesson here was: less is more.
oh, and fire pits make the perfect wedding gift.
bring on the s’mores!
